Question: Can I get a UTI from Having Sex?
Answer: Absolutely. In fact intercourse is probably one of the most common causes of a UTI. The trouble starts for women in the fact that their urethra is so much shorter than in men. It is a much shorter road to travel for bacteria to get from the vagina to the bladder. Secondly, the proximity of the urethreal opening to the anus makes ir really easy for bacteria to move from one place to the other.
Question: Will I get a UTI everytime I have sex?
Answer: There are definitely some things you can do to help prevent a UTI from intercourse. The most important is to try an urinate immediately after sex. Many experts suggest that you try and go both before and after sex, but for many women, that's difficult. If you have to choose just one, go AFTER sex. The primary source of the E.Coli bacteria that is the most common cause of a UTI is from around the anal area. If you engage in anal sex you should alway use a fresh condom to prevent infection by introducing fecal matter into the vagina.
Question: Is a UTI contagious?
Answer: Not really. As we mentioned the primary cause of a urinary tract infection is bacteria in the urinary tract, mostly commonly E. Coli bacteria. If your partner is not clean or has an abundance of bacteria, this can be passed from ne person to another. But a UTI isn't transmissible in and of it's self like a cold or the flu which is caused by a virus.
Question: Will cranberry cure my UTI?
Answer: Cranberry is most effective as a preventative measure rather than as a cure. There are compounds in cranberry that some researchers say makes the lining of the urinary tract less hospitable for bactera, and therefore increase the effectiveness of the body's natural flushing action caused by urination. Best bet here is to use cranberry is a preventative measure.
